Traffic Accident w/ Pin In & Vehicle Fire

At approximately 23:20 hours crews were alerted for a traffic accident with pin-in at the 81000 block of I-85. Engine 643 checked enroute with 5 personnel. While crews were enroute communications called and advised they were receiving multiple calls on it, and now had reports of a tractor trailer fully involved. Engine 643 arrived on scene to find a multi-vehicle accident with one tractor trailer fully involved. Chief 640 established command, and requested additional resources to the scene. Salisbury Rescue 1 & Battalion 1 were added to the call. Engine 643 pulled two lines and begin attacking the fire. Rowan County EMS arrived on scene and begin taking patient care. Crews confirmed we had one Pin-In with it being a confirmed fatality. Salisbury Rescue 1 arrived on scene and begin assisting Engine 643 crew with fire attack. Command requested Salisbury Hazmat to the scene due to a significant diesel fuel spill. The scene was brought under control approximately 1 hour after dispatch. The highway remained shutdown for the next 3 hours for clean up and investigation.
